Caylloma, May 2025.- With the participation of more than 60 camel and sheep producers, Minera Bateas organized two successful auctions in April in the Jachaña Population Center and the Talta annex. Huarahuarco . These activities, carried out in partnership with local authorities, boosted the livestock economy by facilitating the direct, fair-priced sale of 862 animals, generating a combined economic turnover of S/208,419.
The first auction was held on April 23 in the Jachaña Town Center , in partnership with the local municipality. Thirty ranchers from Jachaña , Cucho Capilla, Chinosiri , and Antayaque participated , selling 458 animals (alpacas, llamas, and sheep) for S/94,340. The event brought together 14 buyers from the regions of Puno, Cusco, Arequipa, and Caylloma.
The second auction took place on April 29 at the Talta annex. Huarahuarco , together with the Association of Alpaca Producers and Crafts. 404 animals were sold for a value of S/114,079, with the participation of 30 ranchers and 17 buyers from Puno, Cusco, and Arequipa.
"It is a necessary opportunity that allows livestock producers to sell at a fair price," said Mauro Yucra , mayor of Jachaña .
"This activity is part of our Economic and Productive Development program, which we promote through the Community Relations department with the goal of strengthening the economy of the district's alpaca farming families," said Eduardo Asmat, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Minera Bateas.
The producers' testimonies reflect the direct impact of these spaces.
Santos Holguino Huanca, president of the Talta Annex Alpaca Producers and Crafts Association Huarahuarco said: "Our main source of income is alpaca. That's why it's so important to strengthen these marketing opportunities."
Hilario Mollosihue , a local producer, noted: “Before, they bought from us for whatever they wanted to pay. Now, with these sales, the price has been fair.”
The company provided logistical and technical support for both events, from the installation of corrals to the organization of the auction. Isidro Soto, a returning participant, remarked: "I'm participating again because it's convenient for us. We generate more revenue than with other sales methods."
With these results, the auctions organized by Minera Bateas in partnership with the local authorities of Taltahuarahuarco and Jachaña are consolidated as an effective tool for boosting the rural economy, strengthening livestock trade, and improving the income of high Andean families.
