Bateas Mining presents its best practices in gender inclusion

Caylloma, November 2024.- WIM Peru launched a new edition of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Best Practices Program. This program aims to foster learning and growth by sharing lessons learned and successful experiences from its partner companies. 

 

On this occasion, Valeria Gómez, senior sustainability analyst at Minera Bateas, represented the mining company by presenting its Inclusion Strategy, which includes programs such as Bateas Scholarships and Women-Led Entrepreneurship. 

 

Bateas Scholarships combine training and technical development to provide professional development opportunities for women in Cayllomina . Through access to comprehensive scholarships, the program facilitates access to technical careers related to mining, contributing to access to quality technical higher education and improved employment opportunities. 

 

Launched in 2021, the program has achieved significant results, including 17 scholarships awarded; 92% of scholarship recipients successfully graduated; and 85% of graduates completed internships at Minera Bateas. 

 

The scholarships cover technical careers such as Risk Prevention and Occupational Safety, Geology and Exploration, Mining, Metallurgical and Chemical Processes, Maintenance of Heavy Equipment and Electrical and Industrial Maintenance. 

 

For its part, Women-Led Entrepreneurship provides technical assistance to strengthen businesses led by Cayllomina women . 

 

This program supports local businesses such as Wiñay Textil (clothing manufacturing), Wiñachikuna (agricultural activities), and Avanza Caylloma (lunch box services) through training in business topics such as business strategy, marketing and sales, finance, human talent, operations, and technology. 

 

“The inclusion of women in the sector is fundamental, not only for the sustainable and equitable development of companies, but also for the well-being and progress of the communities where we operate,” Valeria Gómez said in her presentation.
